Description
A very small species of Nerite that will consume film algae, cyanobacteria, diatoms, and some hair algae. Some Virgin Nerites come from brackish water, and are not suitable candidates for the saltwater aquarium. Because of this, we have not carried them until now. Our Virgin Nerites come from a colony that lives in full saltwater, and can live full lives at a salinity range between 1.024 and 1.030.
They eat film algae, cyanobacteria, diatoms, and some hair algae, and will spend most of their time on the glass or on the rock in your aquarium. They are the least likely Nerite species to leave your tank, but they do like to hang out near the top of the water line.
The Virgin Nerite is only about 1/8” in diameter, making it a very small snail. The thing that makes these snails special and sought after is their distinct patterned shell. It is said no 2 are alike, and I have certainly never seen an identical shell. Excellent for picotopes.
