ABCs for Amber Snail Keepers (You!)
We thrive on moist soil. Just scoop some soil (neat and clean plz), fill a bowl to about 1/2'', and we will live happily in it.
Use the small amount of soil in the glass bottle as bacteria starter for our new home. We will surely appreciate a familiar environment.
Always be on the lookout for eggs or baby snails in the glass bottle, as they might hitchhike our ride.
Cover the bowl but remember to leave ventilation for us to breath. Spray / drip water once a day for us to quench.
Leave us indoor and away from direct sunlight. Any temperature you feel comfortable in would do for us.
Our favorite meals: broccoli stalks (and you should like 'em too), lettuce, bok choy, shredded carrot, and many more!
Don't forget our supplements - cuttlebone, shell, egg shell - anything rich in calcium (and doesn't stink) helps us grow.
If well taken care of, I would start laying eggs in a few months. Yes, I! I can reproduce without doing that... the good old style also works though, if possible.
The eggs are little clear beads of 1/32'' to 1/16''. Just leave the eggs in situ, and the next generation will come out in 10-ish days! I don't eat my kids (unlike some freaky fish) so it's safe to keep us all together. We might even lay eggs during the transportation so always examine the glass bottle carefully.
We originate in NorCal. DO NOT let us go wild if we are not native in your hood.
Watch video of an amber snail grazing on a Bok Choy stem. Super cute!
