Description
Fine authentic Native American large Scottsbluff arrowhead. It measures 4 5/8" long and was recovered in Pike County, Illinois. It is made of a high quality tan chert and is in excellent condition with no damage. This great point is from the collection ofJohnny Pace from Southeastern Kentucky. This artifact is from the Early Archaic Period 9600-8000 BP.
There are noticeable deposits of mineralization and patina throughout, so rest assured of its authenticity.
I received an inquiry from a fellow eBay’er asking me to check and see if it was a Hardin instead of a Scottsbluff point. I really appreciated his question. I am not an expert, but It looks more like a Scottsbluff to me than a Hardin. I looked at examples in the 14th Edition do the Official Overstreet Identification and Price Guide in the Northern Central Section, pages 906-908 & 854-860 at the Scottsbluff and Hardin sections. It looked more to like a Scottsbluff than it did like a Hardin. The Hardin has more pronounced ears than the Scottsbluff. I also looked at Lar Hothem's Paleo-Indian Artifacts Identification and Value Guide and this point looks a lot like the Scottsbluff on page 130; the workmanship is also very similar. The Overstreet Guide says they are related points. Both are Transitional Paleo to Early Archaic points and valued about the same. You be the judge. Is it a Scottsbluff or a Hardin? Either way, it is a great Paleo to Early Archaic point.
