    The
    Joe
    Louis
    Story
    .  Joe Louis, aka the
    Brown Bomber
, was heavyweight champion for twelve years, from 1937-1949, longer than any other boxer in history.  Joe Louis is regarded as the first person of African-American descent to achieve the status as a nationwide hero within the United States.
Joe Louis was portrayed in the movie by a real heavyweight fighter named Coley Wallace, who looked and sounded exactly like Joe Louis.  Ironically, in real life, the actor Coley Wallace defeated Rocky Marciano in an amateur boxing match; however, Marciano knocked out Joe Louis in a professional fight.
