This listing is for 2 spearheads - approx 2 1/2" in size.I will be listing many arrowheads and spearheads in the upcoming days. They came from an authentic collection that was framed and displayed in the Masonic Temple in Mechanicville NY around the 1950's-60's. It was collection owned by the x-mayor of New York. When the Masonic temple was sold, the display was given to my husbands grandfather. The wood frame and glass was so old and beat up , we took it all apart and are selling the arrowheads and spears.
The arrowheads were found in Bemis Heights, NY Saratoga Battlegrounds area when New York State was digging up the grounds and making the area into the Saratoga National Historical Park. Tribes lived along this area of the Hudson River, especially in the summertime. He found arrowheads and spears.
I included a picture of the original framed collection in the photos..
Internet Research: New York State was inhabited largely by tribes of Iroquois and Algonquian ancestry. Most of present day New York State was included in the tribal lands of the Seneca, Cayuga, Onondoga, Oneida, and Mohawk tribes, within the Iroquois sphere. These groups formed a loose alliance known as the Five Nations during the 1500s that achieved peace between the member nations.
Though the Mahicans undeniably lived in the area around Saratoga, they most likely never held settlements on the battlefield landscape. However, it has been speculated that they hunted in the area of the current battlefield park and may have altered the vegetation to expedite the practice.
