Description
Beautiful and rare Southwest Native American trough matate and mano from the Sinagua Culture (sometimes referred to as the "Southern Anasazi"). This is a fine example of a tough matate and mano used by the Sinagua people in the Sedona, AZ region. These trough matates developed later, when maize arrived in the Southwest. The trough kept the kernals inside the matate for grinding and, though 900 or so years old, they are far more rare than the simple flat or concave matates from earlier periods. Priced very low and should make a wonderful addition to your collection. The metate is approximately 16" long by 10" wide. The mano is worn very flat and smooth on one side and is a gorgeous work of art on its own, and is 6" long by 3" wide. Both are comprised of basaltic lava and were found near eachother, so may be a matching set, which is very rare. Shipping is just .50 in a large flat rate priority box. This artifact was rescued from destruction at a nearby development (private property) with permission.
