    Description

Assassin snails are one of the most effective ways to remove pest snails in an aquarium. They stay small in size and breed rather slowly making it easy to control their population.  Assassin snails are very hardy.  Additionally, they are a gorgeous looking little snail to have in your tank.  They are yellow and brown striped.  Our snails are shipped in a bag with water in a insulated box with heat packs or ice packs as needed in order for your snails to arrive alive, healthy, and active.
The assassin snails shipped to you will vary in size, +/- 1/4 inch and larger.  Fully mature snails can reach over an inch in length.
    Habitat and Feeding:
The assassin snail spends much of its time buried in substrate. They are least active during mid-day; however, they can sense food and will become active if fed.  They will eat both fish food and the pest snails.  They are capable of eating larger snails so be very careful it you want to keep your Nerite, Mystery, and Ramshorn snails alive.
    Life cycle:
With Clea Helena snails the sexes are separated.  There are male and female individuals which are not hermaphroditic. Currently it is not known how to identify which is male and which is female. Both males and females seem to be the same size and shape. When a male and female mate, they lock together for many hours. The female lays several clear egg capsules which are square in shape and approximately 1.0 to 1.5 mm in width and height. Each egg capsule contains a single small yellow egg. The egg capsules are generally laid on solid surfaces such as plastic, wood, ornaments, and often on the base of plants. Fertile eggs usually hatch within a few weeks.  Babies are very tiny.
    Please note:
During shipping, snails sometimes go into a hibernation-like state and may not become fully active for up to a week once acclimated to your aquarium.
    Shipping:
The shipping Box will be insulated and ice packs will be used if needed.  Currently we ship Monday, Tuesday, sometimes on Wednesday and on Saturday.  We do not label our boxes with "Live Fish" as this causes delays and DOAs.  The largest risk in shipment is the fish being left in a mailbox upon delivery.
