From the archive of film historian and author Joel Finler.
Alex Cox's directorial debut, a delicious black satire of Ronald Reagan's 1980s America, which filters a punk rock disdain through a hilariously comic lens, an immediate cult classic.
After losing his tedious supermarket job at gunpoint, and finding his girlfriend sleeping with one of his pals, punk rocker Otto (Emilio Estevez) is tricked by Bud (Harry Dean Stanton) into repossessing a car. Begrudgingly, Otto agrees to be a repo man for the Helping Hand Acceptance Corporation and, when a ,000 bounty comes through for a shoddy Dodge Malibu, conspiracies abound. Is it drug related? Are there aliens in the trunk? Or maybe a neutron bomb?
Shot on location throughout Los Angeles, California.
