I will combine shipping for multiple orders, any unnecessary shipping we be refunded.
Snail Size and Growth:
Most of my
Purple
stock is currently around 3/8 inch, or 10mm. Just old enough to start selling them again.
Message me if you have a special request and I'll try to accommodate it.
You will receive snails somewhere between pea-size to full-grown snails. I will typically ship the biggest snails I have in stock first.
These snails grow very quickly! Fewer snails grow faster than lots of snails, and they grow faster in warmer water. I would expect them to be full-grown in approximately 4-6 weeks, and producing egg clutches approximately 6-8 weeks from delivery.
Female snail shells get as big as 2 inches (5cm), and their overall body can be as large as 3.5 inches (9cm). Males are typically smaller, only growing to 70-80% the size of females.
Snail Diet:
Mystery snails are considered plant-safe, and only eat dead plant material. However if they are underfed/hungry they may ruin some live plants such as subwassertang and jungle val, especially newer plants that aren't established yet or if you only have 1 or 2 plants and lots of snails.
Mystery snails are great at eating algae, biofilm, and dead fish, and they also eat sinking pellets, algae wafers, and blanched vegetables such as zucchini, kale, spinach, cucumber, or unsalted green beans. All my mystery snails LOVE sinking pellets. I feed mine Hikari Cichlid Gold sinking pellets.
Mystery snails don't like salt or copper.
Sources of copper include some aquarium foods, fertilizers, pesticides, and fish medications.
Sources of salt include canned vegtables, aquarium treatments, fertilizers, pesticides, and fish medications.
Snail Reproduction:
Sexing juvenile snails isn't practical. When they mature the females will be huge compared to the males.
You can choose if you want your snails to reproduce or not.
Water level should be 2"-3" below top of tank if you want egg clutches
Water level should be completely full if you don't want egg clutches
Egg clutches need to remain moist and above water for 4 weeks. They harden quickly and will be very firm even in moist conditions. You can leave them in-place to hatch, 4 out of 5 clutches will make it if you just leave them alone. You'll probably need a lid that covers 60-70% of the tank opening to keep humidity in and get good hatch rates.
Remove the egg clutches if you don't want baby snails.
Recommended Water Parameters:
pH range: 7.2 to 8.4 (alkaline)
Temperature range: 65° to 85° F
kH 12-18
gH 8-18 (Mystery snails like hard water)
Crushed coral, oyster shells, egg shells, or cuttlebone for a calcium supplement and alkalinity buffer
Minimum tank size: one gallon per adult snail
Tank should have a lid to stop snails from escaping
Shipping Details:
Now shipped exclusively in a bigger box, fully-lined with styrofoam! I use a hot-wire cutter to get the styrofoam edges as clean as possible to minimize the mess and for the best insulating properties.
The snails breathe air so they do not need to be shipped in a bag of water. The snails will come packaged in a 3.5oz condiment cup with wet paper towels to keep them moist. The rest of the space in the box will be filled with additional insulation.
All orders are shipped via USPS Priority mail. Message me if you want Priority Express and I'll make you a custom listing, however it's generally not worth the extra expense.
I will only ship on Mondays and Tuesdays to avoid weekend delays.
These snails will handle hot weather up to 95°F or 35°C, and cold weather down to 40°F or 4.5°C.
If your region is too hot or too cold for delivery I may refund the sale at my discretion.
No international shipping, mainland USA only.
Acclimating Your New Snails:
Drip Acclimation is required. It should take an hour to drip acclimate your new snails. It's the safest way to acclimate snails to a new tank and new water parameters.
Drip Acclimation not only acclimates the temperature (like floating the bag in the tank does), but it also acclimates the pH, TDS, salinity, gH, kH, etc.
Drip Acclimation Instructions:
Find a container to put the snails into. It should hold at least 16oz (2 Cups) of water.
Gently place the snails into the drip container. Try to keep the container covered so the snails don't escape!
Use a 1/4 inch tube to siphon water from the tank you intend to keep your new snails in into the drip container.
Either use a drip nozzle, or use a clamp on the tubing to adjust the flow to a drip rate of about 1 drip per second.
You may want to use an additional container without snails in it while setting your drip rate.
Once the drip container with your new snails in gets 75% full, your new snails should be ready to transfer into their intended home tank.
They'll probably be hungry after their shipment!
Live-Arrival Guarantee:
Live arrival is overwhelmingly successful even with 10+ days of shipping time as long as the snails aren't exposed to extreme temperatures long enough to cause injury.
If you think your snails are dead, first wait 48 hours for them to acclimate and start roaming around.
If the snails are still in their shell with their trapdoor shut tight, they are still alive.
Once they die, they relax and the trapdoor will start to open and their body will start falling out of the shell and dangling freely.
If the trapdoors are still tightly shut, then the snails are still alive.
If you want a refund for DOA snails:
Take close-up photos of the dead snails and send them to me.
Pictures of snails at the bottom of your tank with their trapdoor tightly shut are not proof of dead snails, give them a little more time.
Pics must show dead snails falling out of their shells with their trapdoor open.
Don't worry, I'll make it right if you end up with dead snails for any reason. I'll take the loss on the snail portion of the order, my lost time, packaging material, and eBay fees, but I would ask that we at least split the shipping expense.
Shipping fees not refundable. Seller and Buyer to split shipping expense in case of Dead-on-Arrival (DOA) snails.
I will guarantee live arrival via partial refund for DOA snails, with the following restrictions:
In the summer:
Live arrival is guaranteed for up to 30 minutes after delivery.
If you can't get your snails out of the mailbox within 30 minutes of delivery, please arrange to have your package held at the post office or have a neighbor get it out of the mailbox. Mailboxes in the sun can easily reach 150°F / 65°C or more inside, so I can only guarantee 30 minutes of exposure to temperatures in that range.
In the winter:
Live arrival is guaranteed unless you let your snails freeze.
If you can't get your snails out of the mailbox before it gets below 40°F or 4.5°C, please arrange to have your package held at the post office or have a neighbor get it out of the mailbox.
I can arrange for your package to be held at the post office if you let me know before I ship the item(s).
eBay Feedback Etiquette:
I work very hard to maintain 100% positive feedback. eBay grades sellers on their feedback rating so it's important to keep it in good standing.
If you have ANY problems, please contact me before leaving negative or neutral feedback. I will earn your positive feedback even in a DOA situation, if the post office loses your package, or whatever might happen that results in a problem.
If you leave negative or neutral feedback before contacting me and giving me a chance to make it right, you take away my incentive to work with you, and I won't gain anything from any further action I perform for you.
Return Details:
No Returns - please do your homework on keeping mystery snails before purchasing.
Messages:
Keep an eye on your eBay message inbox after purchasing. Sometimes I have to verify the shipping address with the buyer or I might have something else I need to address before I can ship.
Not responsible for shipping delays due to customer not answering messages.
100% Live-Arrival Guarantee
