Ramshorn snails are common in the freshwater aquarium industry. Hobbyists tend to use them as an addition in an aquarium. Ramshorns enjoy caves and interesting places to roam. They are easy to adjust to most tank parameters, but need adequate gH. Without sufficient calcium their shells cannot develop. These snails prefer aquariums with a variety of live plants. Live plants are part of how ramshorns get their nutrition from dead or dying plant matter. Other nutrition comes from soft algae, and uneaten foods. Bottom feeder tablets and calcium-rich supplements are also recommended. You can supplement calcium by using cuttlebone found in the bird section of most pet stores. Fresh vegetables like lettuce, spinach, cucumber, etc. is also a healthy supplement to a snails diet.
