In this lot we offer artifacts from 3 different sites in Cayuga County, NY. All of these artifacts were found by me or our family. The provenance is air tight. The spear from Otter Lake measures 2 7/16" long. It is made from spectacular Western Onondaga flint (Diver's Lake)...love the colors. Otter Lake is south of Meridian, NY. We found this on our 1 and only visit to the site. Not sure why we didn't go back? The next 10 artifacts are from the famed Kipp Island site in Montezuma Swamp (see Ritchie). There is a nice jasper Susquehanna (odd for our area). There are a few drills and a section of an Intrusive Mound steatite platform pipe with a hole drilled and incisings. The raccoon point has been "repaired". My dad liked to fiddle with trying to repair points on cold CNY winter nights. (See overall photo 8). He used some kind of resin. I'd just break off the repair and cut your losses.
Finally, there are 12 artifacts from the Thruway Hill #2 Site. This is on the north side of the NYS Thruway just north of Port Byron, NY. This selection includes a reworked Snyder point, and several nice smaller side notch points. The uniface scraper is exceptionally nice and made from a top notch material. The Lamoka has a needle like point.
If some of the points look shiny it is because we used to coat them with Aero-Wax (naturally) after we found them. Our kids have no interest in these points so I need to find them a good home after curating them for 50+ years. These were all found in the 1960s and 1970s. I pack them right in their Riker Mounts. I put extra thick foam between the layers which holds the points in place and protects them. Lucky buyer please add .75 shipping.
