    Clovis Point and Beaver Lake Point
    Cultural Time Period:
    PaleoIndian approximately 12,800 YBP (years before present) and Trans-Paleo approx. 10,200 YBP
    Length:
    2 5/16” Clovis and 2 1/4” Beaver Lake
    Grade:
    Finely flaked broken Clovis point with ancient heat damage or “fire pop” and G-4.5 Beaver Lake point
    Stone:
    Very fine, hard, tan mottled with brown and cream fossiliferous Harrodsburg chert Clovis. Fine, hard, light brown mottled with tan and cream semitranslucent Boyle chert with gray overtone. Surface of stone is heavily mineralized with clearly visible iron deposits from longtime contact with groundwater. V
    ery well patinated from longtime exposure to outdoor elements (oxidization / weathering). Clearly exhibits surface sheen or polish from soil particulates.
    Provenance:
    Southeast, United States. Provenance to purchaser. Isolated finds surface collected by folks on private property many years ago. All from well regarded sources.
    Analysis:
    2 piece group consisting of 1) 2 5/16” Clovis Point (broken) [Paleolithic -approximately, 12,800 YBP (years before present)] made of very fine, hard, tan mottled with brown and cream fossiliferous (or fossil filled) Harrodsburg chert from Clark County, Kentucky. Blade is finely made and lenticular in cross section. Base has been thinned and hafting area is ground. Exhibits ancient damage from exposure to heat or fire. and 2) G 4.5 2 1/4” Beaver Lake Point [Trans-Paleolithic -approx. 10,200 YBP (years before present)] with multiple sharpenings that has significantly reduced its size. Made of very fine, hard, light brown mottled with tan and cream semitranslucent Boyle chert with gray overtone from Clark Co., KY. Heavily patinated surfaces. Surface sheen and polish from longtime contact with groundwater and exposure to elements. Multiple sharpenings has significantly reduced size of blade. Very well ground hafting area. Both pieces Ex. -Davis Artifacts.
    Classic examples of collectable old types from the same area. Authentic (“no brainer authentic”), old, affordable Clovis point and Beaver Lake for study.
    Opinion / of Related Interest:
    Clovis points [PaleoIndian -approximately 12,800 YBP (years before present)] are finely flaked medium to large spear points made of fine stone for hunting by ancient man. Cultural lineage considered to be Cumberland - Redstone Clovis - Clovis - Folsom (in the West). The folks who made them encountered mastodons, mammoths, giant cave bears, saber-tooth tigers, giant sloths, ancient horse, tapir, peccary, etc. Type is rare / found scattered across Lower 48 states with concentrations in some areas.
