Up for auction is a 1965 Beetle Ragtop. The previous owners were my son’s neighbors. They brought the car to Georgia from New Mexico 6 years ago. He had the original engine upgraded with a newly rebuilt 1600cc (1971 Model #AE454422). The man that did the engine rebuild & swap, is our local VW expert that’s been in busines for as long as I can remember dating back to the 80’s. He is the best around. The car has approximately 2000 miles since the swap. The previous owner drove the car regularly and it has been maintained. Only non-ethanol fuel has been running in the car.
This Beetle has not leaked 1 drop of oil or any fluid on my garage floor since I have owned it.
NO LEAKS.
The car is responsive, and it runs, rides, drives, and handles well. It starts right up first time every time with no battery drain. Its fun to drive and seems to be dependable enough to be an everyday driver if you wanted it to be.
The paint looks good, but this is not a show car. It has some rash on the roof behind the ragtop where the clearcoat and some paint has rubbed thin. Pictures below. It has a few other various places on the paint as well. The floors seem to be nice and solid. There is some minimal rust here and there around the body seams but mainly surface rust. There was some surface rust under the front hood where the spare tire was stored… I sanded that down to the metal and clear coated the area. See pictures below. It does not come with a spare.
The interior is simple and mostly original except for the door panels and seat covers. The original steering wheel is cool with plenty of patina. It does have an aftermarket sound system. The bug has been upgraded to a 12-volt system. The speedometer shows 57,401 miles but it does not work, and I will be selling the car miles exempt. The fuel gauge seems to work; however, I wouldn’t trust it completely ha-ha. The headlights, taillights and turn signal all work, even the little blue (bright light) dash indicator works. The windows roll up & down just fine.
It has the original Hella headlamp lens’s Made in Germany!
The vehicle identification number (VIN)… #115740065 is found on the hump under the rear seat and shown in the pics below. When I registered the car in my name, I was required by the state to have a police inspection report done and the car history checked, and it was all good. The report goes with the car.
The 1965 VW Bug or VW Beetle Sedan has some remarkable features. We can recognize the VW Beetle 1965 with the large rear window.
