Here's a rare opportunity to buy an authentic strand of Susquehannock glass trade beads that measures 12 inches long. Includes rare black tubes with red stripes and black tubes with white stripes. These were recovered south of Wrightsville PA (my home town) on a hillside over looking the mile wide Susquehanna River in York County PA. The Oscar Leibhart site (36YO9) was never open to field walking collectors or the public so artifacts from this site are non existent on the market and the site now is lost and overgrown by large trees and modern housing development is approaching the site and it may well be completely destroyed in the future. The site occupied by the mighty Susquehannock Indians between 1655- 1680 AD after they left Washington boro and the Strickler site (36LA3). Ex. Donald "Digger" Leibhart collection. Sold thru Cordier auctions in 2016- this was the first time this collection had ever seen the open market. I attended and I bought a large portion of this collection there and I plan on keeping 99% of what I purchased as these artifacts are significant local history and I want to preserve what Mr. Leibhart started in the mid 1950s and keep this collection together. I'm only selling a few items so a few other passionate collectors can have a piece of history! The site and Donald are written about in several books including Barry Kents "Susquehannas Indians" (c 1984). Donald carried on the great tradition that his father (Oscar) and uncle (Bert- always misspelled Byrd) started decades before of carefully documenting and preserving the history found on his farm.
