Description
10 Blue Ramshorn Snails for Aquarium.Ramshorn snails are a great addition to an aquarium because they eat algae and detritus (poo and uneaten food). They will not bother fish or fry, shrimp or shrimplets, other snails, or healthy plants. They have a mutually beneficial relationship with shrimp, benefit plants by keeping them clean of algae, and help keep fry grow-out situations clean of uneaten food so it doesn’t spoil in the water.
These snails stay small (up to an inch in diameter) and are perfect for nano tanks, such as setups with bettas or shrimp. In larger numbers, they can be great for any size tank, but certain fish (puffers, loaches, some cichlids) may see them as food, so be sure to research compatibility.
Ramshorn snails, as with all snails, require calcium to grow and maintain their shells. If you have very soft water or will be keeping snails in remineralized RO water with discus or caridina shrimp, etc., you will likely need to give them something that contains calcium from time to time, since they may not be able to find enough of it by scavenging in these kinds of setups. Vacation feeders (the chalky white kinds) are a good option, and you can also use various mineral supplements made for freshwater shrimp. How often you will need to add these will depend on your setup, but calcium should be your first thought if you notice their shells looking rough or uneven. Pellets or wafers made for pleco species are great for supplemental feeding, as well, if you are not sure whether they are finding enough to eat, in general.
Please note that Blue Ramshorn snails are pinkish when young because the shells start out translucent, and their pinkish body coloration shows through the shells. You may notice a light leopard spotting pattern on the shells as well. As the snails grow, their shells become thicker, more opaque, and the spots usually disappear altogether. The adults have a solid blue/bluish-gray shell, as shown in the first two photos. The juveniles you will receive are beginning to show some of their bluish coloration, but please be patient and enjoy the transformation process as they gain their mature coloration over the next several weeks. The third photo shows what you can expect your snails to look like when you first receive them.
SHIPPING: I only ship on Mondays and Tuesdays to avoid having any aquatic life get stuck in transit over the weekend. I ship Priority two-day shipping with appropriate insulation and hot or cold packs as needed. Because these are tropical creatures, please understand that shipping may be fatal to them when the low temperature in either my area or yours is below 40 degrees Fahrenheit, or the high is above 85 degrees. I reserve the right to cancel or delay an order due to temperature outside of this range; however I will be in touch with you if that is the case, so we can discuss how to proceed. The goal is, of course, to get the animals to you in the safest manner possible. Thank you for understanding.
DOAs- In the unlikely event that fish or invertebrates do not survive the shipping process, a clear photo of the deceased animal in the unopened bag is required for a refund or replacement (your choice).
Thank you for looking, and please let me know if you have any questions.
