    Description

LOCAL PICKUP ONLY during the winter!
Healthy, tank-bred Neocaridina davidi "Cherry shrimp." Approx 0.75-1.5 inch size at shipping. 10+2 means I will ship 12 shrimp, and if ten or more arrive healthy, the transaction will be considered successful.
These shrimps are red in color, but the exact shade, pattern, or grade may vary. See pictures for examples.
These shrimp feed primarily on algae and biofilm (microorganisms growing naturally on the surfaces of your tank), but will be happy to be supplemented with sinking protein-heavy foods, algae wafers, or blanched vegetables. (I've personally found that de-shelled peas are their favorite.) They are very good at keeping decor and plants clean.
These shrimp are not suitable to be housed with any fish other than small, peaceful species. Example species that I have found do not bother adult shrimp are White Cloud Mountain Minnows (Tanichthys albonubes), and Zebra/Leopard Danios (Danio rerio). Other keepers have found success keeping them with Otocinclus catfish, small tetras, cherry barbs, guppies, and fish of similar size and temperament. Note that some species which do no bother adult shrimp may still eat shrimplets/newborns.
Make sure your tank is free of ammonia and nitrites (other than trace amounts) before adding shrimp. Additionally, making sure your water has dissolved calcium/minerals for the shrimp to build healthy exoskeletons and molt is important - I use natural cuttlebone in my tanks, the same kind as is sold for birds, for this purpose. Other than these factors, cherry shrimp are very hardy, and do well in a wide variety of parameters. I keep my shrimp at room temperature (70-72f) and while the 65-75f range is usually considered ideal, the shrimp have been known to tolerate temperature of 40f-85f, making them a suitable choice for some ponds as well as aquariums.
